미국 최고 인기 여가수 테일러 스위프트가 애플에 한방을 먹였다. 

테일러 스위프트는 21일(현지시간) 자신의 히트 앨범 '1989'을 애플이 야심적으로 출시하는 ‘애플 뮤직‘에 올리지 않겠다고 선언했다.

To Apple, Love Taylor

I write this to explain why I’ll be holding back my album, 1989, from the new streaming service, Apple Music. I feel this deserves an explanation because Apple has been and will continue to be one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans. I respect the company and the truly ingenious minds that have created a legacy based on innovation and pushing the right boundaries.

I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.

This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs.

These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.

I realize that Apple is working towards a goal of paid streaming. I think that is beautiful progress. We know how astronomically successful Apple has been and we know that this incredible company has the money to pay artists, writers and producers for the 3 month trial period… even if it is free for the fans trying it out.

Three months is a long time to go unpaid, and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing. I say this with love, reverence, and admiration for everything else Apple has done. I hope that soon I can join them in the progression towards a streaming model that seems fair to those who create this music. I think this could be the platform that gets it right.

But I say to Apple with all due respect, it’s not too late to change this policy and change the minds of those in the music industry who will be deeply and gravely affected by this. We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.

이 글은 굉장히 논리적이고, 잘 쓴 글같다. 돈 더 받겠다고 잘난체 하며 적은 글도 아니고,

애플을 직접적으로 비난하거나 공격하지도 않았다.. 

아마 이렇게 썼으니 애플이 화답한 것 이겠지.. ㄷ

테일러 스위프트 본인이 이글을 썼는지, 변호나나 다른 사람이 이글을 썼는지는 모르겠지만, 

직접 곡을 쓰는 테일러 스위프트 답게 대단한 글솜씨를 발휘 한 듯하다.

이 글에 따르면 팝가수 테일러 스위프트는  "애플처럼 역사상 가장 진보적인 기업이 무료 체험 기간에 로열티를 주지 않기로 한 것은 매우 실망스러운 처사"라고 언급했다. 또한 그녀는 “여러분들은 애플 뮤직이 신규 가입자에게 3개월 무료 서비스를 제공한다는 것을 잘 알고 있을 것”이라면서 “하지만 애플 뮤직이 그 기간동안 작곡자, 프로듀서 혹은 가수에게조차 단 한푼도 주지 않는다는 것도 알고 있는 지 모르겠다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “이같은 조치는 충격적이고 실망스러울 뿐 아니라 역사적으로 진보적이고 포용적인 입장을 보였던 회사(애플)와는 전혀 어울리지 않는다라고 꼬집었다. 

테일러 스위프트는 이밖에 “이같은 요구는 나 자신을 위한 것이 아니다. 다행히 나는 자신은 물론 밴드 등을 이끌 충분한 여력이 있다”고 전제한 뒤 “이는 자신의 첫 앨범을 내고도 적절한 대가를 받지 못하는 신인 가수와 밴드들을 위한 것”이라고 주장했다. 

애플은 오는 30일부터 음악스트리밍 서비스인 애플 뮤직을 100여개국에서 출시한다. 가입자들을 끌어모으기 위해 3개월간 무료로 서비스 제공한다는 방침도 밝혔었었다.

하지만, 테일러 스위프트의 반발은 물론 영국 출신 가수 아델, '크립'으로 유명한 라디오 헤드, 더 컬트 등이 소속된 음반사 베가스 그룹도 애플 뮤직에 자신들의 앨범을 제공하지 않겠다고 입장을 밝힌까닭에... 

에디 큐 애플 수석부사장은 이날 자신의 SNS에 "애플은 테일러 스위프트 등 아티스트들이 언제나 로열티를 지급받을 수 있도록 할 것"이라고 해당 시스템을 철회한다고 전했다. 이달 초 애플 뮤직을 처음 소개하며 밝혔던 3개월 '노(No) 로열티' 방침을 거둬들인 것이다. 애플이 즉각 로열티 지급 방침을 밝히면서 테일러 스위프트의 사태는 일단락된 것으로 예상된다.

이 같은 상황은 개인 창작자가 큰 시스템에 도전한 일로서, 대단한 사건이 아닐수 없다. 과거 서태지도 저작권 관련을 위임하지 않았었고, 그 결과 투명성이 보다 확보되었다고 말 할수 있다.

정말 테일러 스위프트를 볼때마다, 이효리 같다는 생각이 많이 든다. 확실한 자기 주장과 사회적인 영향력. 엔터네이너로서의 파장. 능력. 힘. 

특히 테일러 스위프트는 얼마전 한 소방관에게 소리 소문없이 15,000불의 기부를 했다고 한다.

애플이 한 뮤지션에 굴복한 사건... 참 놀라운 사건이 아닐수 없다.  우리 나라면 어땠을까;;;
