박주영, 손흥민 월드컵의 주목할 스타로 선정

미국의 한 일간지가 선정한 '주목해야 할 2014 브라질 월드컵 10대 스타'에 한국 대표팀의 스트라이커 박주영이 '주목해야 할 2014 월드컵 10대 스타'로 선정되었다.

미국 일간지 샌프란시스코 크로니클은 11일(이하 한국시간) '주목해야 할 2014 월드컵 10대 스타'를 선정하고 박주영의 이름을 5번째에 올렸다. 아시아 선수로는 박주영이 유일하다.

샌프란시스코 크로니클은 박주영을 선정한 이유를 다음과 같이 밝혔다.

"박주영은 한국 대표로 A매치 63경기 24골을 기록했다. 최근 부상으로 월드컵 출전이 위협받았다.며 "한국은 본선에서 박주영이 전력을 다해 뛰는 것이 필요하다. 지난 2010 남아공 월드컵 조별리그 나이지리아와의 경기에서 박주영의 득점이 있었기에 한국은 16강 진출을 확정지을 수 있었다"고 설명했다.

미국 일간지 샌프란시스코 크로니클은 캘리포니아 북부에서 첫 번째로, 미시시피 서부에서는 두 번째로 큰 신문으로, '서부의 목소리(Voice of the West)'라고 불린다. 

한때는 경쟁지이자 같은 회사에 소속된 《이그재미너 The Examiner》와 함께 샌프란시스코 2대 신문이었으나, 현재 《이그재미너》는 무가지로 바뀌었고 타블로이드판으로 발행된다.

Loved by stylists in the finest salons. The forward's play is as sharp as his constantly changing hair. His trademarks are blazing speed and lethal finishing. Brazil's young hope leads the dance, joga bonito, as they say in Rio: play beautifully.

Wayne Rooney England

Though he is not likely to be posing naked on the front cover of magazines like Ronaldo, not to worry. He puts his own gloss on the game. Color him in the flag of St. George, patron saint of England. Wayne is the lion heart, Churchillian in his belief that England must prevail. The sun may have set on the British Empire, but Rooney will fight until he drops exhausted on the fields of Brazil.

Michael Bradley U.S.

The crank on the U.S. engine, he holds the key to the nation's World Cup drive if it is to be long into the tournament. The midfielder exudes grace and power in equal measure. Give him space to run and he'll produce the opening the forwards need to seal victory.

이에 반해,  미국의 NBC는 11일 2014 브라질월드컵 H조를 분석하며 "벨기에와 러시아가 16강에 진출할 것"이라고 예상했는데, NBC가 선정한 'H조에서 주목해야 할 선수 TOP5'에는 한국 선수로 유일하게 손흥민(22·레버쿠젠)이 꼽혔다.

한편 미국의 NBC는 한국의 단점을 지적했는데, NBC는 "김영권-홍정호 등 한국의 중앙수비수들은 부족한 경험으로 그간의 평가전에서 많은 문제점을 드러냈다"고 지적했다. 이어 "원톱 스트라이커인 박주영도 위협적인 모습을 보여주지 못하고 있다"고 덧붙였다. 

또 12년 만에 월드컵 본선에 오른 벨기에의 단점으로는 경험부족을, 러시아 대표팀의 단점으로는 느린 수비를 꼽았다. 알제리는 골 결정력이 있는 검증된 스트라이커가 없다고 지적했다.

박주영, 손흥민 선수. 언론에서 지목하는 것은 그만한 잠재적 능력이 있다는 것 아닐까? 너무 겁먹지 말고, 마음껏 기량을 발휘하는 이번 월드컵이 되었으면 좋겠다.
